You might have seen them walking through Bakersfield with their flags and backpacks Sunday. The group is called Carry the Load.

It’s a group based out of Dallas, Texas that aims to bring out the true meaning of Memorial Day.

The group walks in legs from Seattle to Dallas via San Diego, Las Vegas and throughout Arizona.

They gather stories of veterans and first responders, pin them to their backpacks and walk or cycle from town to town honoring those who put their lives in harm’s way.
