Memorial May 2020

Cajun Cactus

Memorial Day,  a day to remember,  respect,  and honor those who protect our freedom and keep us safe; to honor our military,  police,  fire department , and rescue personnel ; to honor those who have given their lives or parts of their bodies,  minds,  and souls for us.

Carry The Load was started in 2011 by Navy SEALS Stephen Holley and Clint Bruce as a 20 hour and 11 minute March in Dallas.  The following year an East Coast Relay was added, it started at the West Point Military Academy in New York state and ended in Dallas . In 2016 a West Coast Relay was added it started in Seattle  Washington and ended in Dallas. Last year more than 50,000 people participated in almost 50 cities in 19 states .

Since 2011, 17.7 million dollars have been raised,  93.62% of which has gone towards Awareness,  Continuum of Care , and Education . Continuum of Care is 30 non-profit partners who provide direct services to our heroes and their families.

Martha and I will again be participating in the Dallas March,  this is my 4th year and Martha's 3rd. We will camp out at Reverchon Park for at least 20 hours and 18 minutes  and walk the Katy Trail. Martha will try to beat the 30 miles she walked last year. I will walk as much as I can even though I am still recovering from a quad tendon rupture of my left knee.

We will be carrying 4 Navy SEALS :  Jonas Kelsall and Rob Reeves were KIA in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011 along with 23 other SEALS when their helicopter was shot down.  Jonas and Rob were high school buddies and friends of our niece and nephew. Ty Woods and Glen Doherty were KIA in Benghazi, Libya on September 12, 2012 while working for the State Department defending the CIA annex.
