Sergeant John Savage was assigned to the 103rd Engineer Company, 94th Engineer Battalion Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He died from wounds sustained from an I.E.D. in Mosul, Iraq.

John grew up dreaming of being a soldier and loved the military. He and his father planned to start an automotive business together. John was described as a charismatic young man with a great sense of fun who loved four-wheelers, automobiles, and the outdoors.
