Wood River residents can help Carry the Load

In hopes of more people understanding the sacrifices the military, first responders and their families go through, Carry the Load organizers are offering a chance for the public to participate in an event at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at the Ketchum Fire Department.

The event starts with family-friendly activities at the fire station, and then at 6:30 p.m. people can walk a mile loop to honor the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes.

“Carry The Load’s mission to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day has grown into a nationwide movement—with five routes covering 20,000 miles across 48 states to honor and remember those who have laid down their lives for our freedom,” said Brooke Scott, media coordinator for Carry the Load in a news release.

Founded by veteran U.S. Navy SEALs Clint Bruce and Stephen Holley, Carry the Load works to bring all Americans together to participate in honoring our nation’s heroes every day.

Carry The Load raises funds to assist with many challenges facing the military, veterans, first responders and their families. The nonprofit’s goal this year is $2 million through peer-to-peer fundraising, organizers stated.
