Volunteers travel through Eau Claire, La Crosse in honor of fallen military veterans, first responders
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Memorial day may be several weeks away, but volunteers marched through the area today in honor of veterans. They’re a part of the “Carry the Load” national relay to honor and remember our fallen military and first responders.
“So, I never served in the military, but this is my way as a civilian to give back,” said Hunter Lovelace, a Carry the Load photographer. “I’ve had several encounters in my life where first responders, firefighters, have been there to help police officers, and of course, I couldn’t be here doing this if it wasn’t for the sacrifices those made overseas .”

Carry The Load stops in Bakersfield on national tour
As part of its mission “to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day,” a team with Carry The Load made its way through Bakersfield on Sunday as part of a 20,000-mile national relay to honor fallen service members.
“For anyone who has lost someone in service to our country, they will tell you that participating in Carry The Load has made a lasting impact on their life,” Stephen Holley, cofounder, president and CEO of Carry The Load said in a news release. “There is nothing like the human touch. Being in that environment, walking side-by-side one another, and sharing stories demonstrates beyond words that people do care.”

Carry The Load relay: Recognizing veterans and their sacrifice
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - With Memorial Day just a few weeks away, one national non-profit is looking to remember those who died serving their country.
Air Force veteran Jeremiah Kincaid committed to traveling 3,800 miles across the Midwest to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“When you hear thank you for your service on Memorial Day, it kind of sits differently, you know, “ Kincaid said. “Memorial Day is not for me. You know, that’s what Veterans Day is for. So bringing back the true meaning of Memorial Day, it’s about those that, you know, that didn’t get to come home.”

Carry the Load National Relay Stops in Eau Claire
Carry the Load, an event celebrating Memorial Day will be making its way through Eau Claire on Sunday, May 8, as part of its national relay.
There are five routes stretching across the 48 mainland states and covering over 20,000 miles. Eau Claire is a stop on the 3,800-mile Midwest route, starting in Minneapolis on Saturday, and ending in Dallas at the end of the month.

Carry The Load Madison Stops
Carry The Load, a non-profit that provides active ways to connect Americans to the sacrifices of our nation’s military, veterans, first responders and their families, kicks off its 10th Annual National Relay today to raise awareness for the true meaning of Memorial Day. The 32-day, 20,000-mile National Relay includes five routes crossing 48 states and 100 rallies before culminating at the Dallas Memorial March on Memorial Day weekend.
