Relay to honor fallen soldiers, first responders makes its way through Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. — A group of men and women walked through Portland on Friday carrying the weight of fallen soldiers and first responders.
It is part of a relay happening across the country organized by Carry the Load.
“That weight that we carry, every time we're walking, every time our walkers or our bikers get out, we put a bib on our backpacks and we symbolize one of those lost soldiers or police or fireman, and we're carrying them down the road with us every time so their names are not forgotten,” said David Lindsey. Annual Carry the Load relay kicks off in Seattle
SEATTLE — Carry the Load is a symbolic campaign that encourages volunteers to “carry the load” for an American hero in an awareness relay across the country.

#VeteranOfTheDay Army Veteran Thomas Ferrell Allison
Thomas Ferrell Allison was born in Parkland, Washington, in October 1979. In grade school, Allison enjoyed playing war and otherwise messing around at church camp. He graduated from Washington High School, then joined the Army. Christian faith was a central part of Allison’s life. His family reported that, when they were concerned for his safety in the service, he would attempt to reassure them by saying, “Some of us will get to heaven first.”
