National relay honors lives of fallen soldiers in Gwinnett County

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Carry the Load National Relay Race, originally created by two Navy SEAL veterans looks to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day.

For 32 days, Carry the Load, with three regional teams, travel a total of nearly 11,000 miles honoring fallen military soldiers, veterans, first responders and their families. The tour stops in various states in-between until they reach Dallas, Texas for the final march on Memorial Day.

Carry the Load brings movement of honoring military and first responders to central Ohio

A non-profit with a mission to honor military members and first responders came to central Ohio Monday.

Carry the Load has a Memorial May awareness campaign encouraging people to walk with their national relay team to honor fallen heroes.

The organization is holding rallies at more than 55 cities across the country, including part of a Midwest route from Minneapolis to Dallas that stopped in the Columbus area.

TUCSON- A group is on a mission to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day. Carry the Load, a non-profit organization, is now a national movement to honor and remember those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

The group is walking and biking a 32-day journey through 40 states and made a stop in Tucson on Monday.

Culpeper National Cemetery unveils new plaque honoring the fallen

The Carry The Load is a non-profit dedicated to providing active, meaningful ways to honor and celebrate the sacrifices made by our nation’s heroes — military, veterans, first responders and their families. Members of the foundation are on a mission to visit 26 national cemeteries on their way to Dallas, Texas.

Matthew Priest, Director of Culpeper, Winchester, Staunton, and Balls Bluff National Cemeteries, said the plaque honors all soldiers who have fallen, but specifically mentioned Cameron Thomas, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2017. Thomas’ family was present for the unveiling.
