Carry The Load memorial walk in Rockwall this Saturday

Organizers encourage Americans to honor fallen military members and first responders through active participation in remembrance events.

Carry The Load will hold its annual Memorial May walk in Rockwall on Saturday starting at 6 p.m. at the Rockwall County Courthouse.

The event is part of Carry The Load’s nationwide Memorial May campaign, which began April 28 and runs through Memorial Day. The organization encourages Americans to honor fallen military members and first responders through active participation in remembrance events.

Founded in 2011, the nonprofit aims to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day and support families of the fallen. Events are being held across the country throughout May.

Participants can register to join or form a team at CarryTheLoad.org or the group’s Facebook page. Individuals can also donate online. Proceeds support services for veterans and first responders, including counseling, suicide prevention, service dogs, job placement and scholarships for children of the fallen.

This year’s fundraising goal is $1.5 million. Since its inception, Carry The Load has raised $46 million, with 93% of funds going directly to support programs.
