Hundreds ‘Carry the Load’ in Fort Worth to Honor Veterans This Memorial Day Weekend

In Fort Worth on Saturday, hundreds gathered for a rally outside Amon G. Carter Stadium.

“Just come out. Walk with us. You don’t have to be a military person, you don’t have to be a first responder,” said David Lindsey, a retired Dallas firefighter who served 38 years.

The group walked 3.6 miles to the Fort Worth Police and Firefighters Memorial.

How ‘Carry The Load’ honors fallen heroes on Memorial Day

As most Americans will get outside to celebrate the first unofficial weekend of summer, thousands will begin gathering in Dallas ahead of Memorial Day for a two-day event to honor fallen service members. A group called “Carry The Load” has hosted its “Memorial March” for more than a decade now as part of a mission to celebrate heroes and remember their sacrifice. Nonprofit honoring fallen veterans and first responders makes its way through Lawrence as part of 20,000-mile national relay

A nonprofit honoring fallen veterans and first responders rolled through Lawrence as part of a 20,000-mile national relay Thursday, just a few days before Memorial Day.

Joe Meno, a Dallas police officer and relay team member, spoke to the Journal-World about walking across Lawrence and the country with Carry The Load. He and another volunteer had carried an American flag and a flag with the nonprofit’s logo along the way.

“We just got here, but lots of honks in support of the flag,” Meno said of his time walking through Lawrence. “A lot of people yelling, you know. (People) stop us to talk because they saw the flag.”

Carry the Load walks through Waco on Memorial Day weekend

On Friday, the West Coast relay, one of Carry the Load's five relay routes nationwide which started 30 days ago in Seattle, came through Waco and saw local participation in the event which recognizes the sacrifices of military members, veterans and first responders, culminating with a march in Dallas on Memorial Day.

‘Carry the Load’ walks through Mount Pleasant to honor veterans

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas (KLTV) - What started in 2011 as a mission to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day has grown to a year-long event. Five different groups are currently walking across the country for Memorial Day. Some Mount Pleasant residents joined in to help carry the load.
