Staff Sgt. Charles Cartwright began his career as a rifleman, later becoming a Reconnaissance Marine in May 2006. He joined MARSOC soon after the unit was formed. Charles was killed while on his fifth deployment and later posthumously awarded the Silver Star.
Charles was an avid runner and surfer who enjoyed competing in marathons and triathlons. He had a larger-than-life presence, was always in a good mood and would always lend a helping hand.
