Fallen Hero’s Hometown and State: Catonsville, MD

Branch of Service: United States Army

Rank: Sergeant

Sergeant Christian Joseph Hipsley served honorably in the U.S. Army for 10 years as a combat medic, completing three overseas deployments-to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. During a 2010–2011 tour in Afghanistan, he saved five Afghan soldiers after a double IED attack, earning the Bronze Star with Valor. Over his military career, Sgt. Hipsley was awarded two additional Bronze Stars, as well as the Army Commendation Medal. He was known for his compassion, courage, and dedication to caring for others on and off the battlefield.

Spontaneous and full of life, Christian loved music—especially Sublime, German culture—especially the food, and making others laugh. A joyful goofball with a medic’s heart, he brought comfort in chaos and lived to lift others up. Whether on a battlefield or with friends, he made people feel seen, safe, and loved.

Christian’s legacy lives in the lives he saved and the joy he gave. From the battlefield to everyday moments, he brought light, laughter, and healing. His courage and compassion echo through those he mentored, cared for, and loved. We are forever better for having known him.
