Private First Class Gifford E. Hurt joined the United States Army right out of high school based on a strong desire to serve his country. Gifford was on his first deployment to Iraq when he was killed when he was thrown from an out-of-control Humvee.

GJ was so loving. His smile lit up a room and he was loved by many. He enjoyed working out, boxing, and playing basketball. GJ loved serving his Country. With only two weeks to prepare, he volunteered to go to Iraq and take the place of another soldier.
