‘Carry the Load’ honors sacrifices made by military, first responders and their families

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - The non-profit Carry the Load, which honors the memory of our fallen heroes, hosts walks and bike rides in cities from coast to coast during a 32-day relay. On May 15, they’ll kick off a relay at Bechtold Park in Sycamore Township.

Walking, biking group honors Deputy Herrera while passing through El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Members of the national organization "Carry the Load" are continuing their walking and biking journey across the country in honor of service men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty.

On Wednesday, the group is walking through El Paso with the name of fallen Deputy Peter Herrera on their backs. Every day, members write names of fallen heroes on their backs and carry them with them.

"When we came into El Paso County, we started carrying Peter Herrera's and we will carry him all the way through El Paso," volunteer David Lindsey told KTSM. "Once we get through El Paso, we'll take his tag and we'll put inside a backpack and he will go all the way to Dallas with us."

The East Coast Relay of the “Carry The Load” walk will return to Hunt County during the Memorial Day weekend.

It is the sixth year in a row Carry The Load has come through Greenville on its way to its final destination in Dallas.

Carry the Load to stop at Fort Hood for Memorial Day event

Carry The Load, a nonprofit dedicated to providing active, meaningful ways to honor and celebrate the sacrifices made the military, veterans, first responders and their families, will rally at the Fort Hood 1st Cavalry Division Horse Detachment May 23 as part of its 4,600-mile West Coast Relay.

The rally at Fort Hood is at 2 p.m., after which the relay will depart for a 22-mile bike ride to Belton and ending the day with a 35-mile bike ride to Waco.

Area events to benefit Mission 22 for veterans

LONE OAK — As the Memorial Day holiday grows closer, multiple events are being scheduled in the area to raise awareness of how veterans face daily challenges with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has reported that approximately 22 veterans commit suicide each day after their deployment due to PTSD and TBI, which prompted the establishment of Mission 22, a nationwide organization dedicated to assisting veterans and their families cope with the issues.

Charles Barrow of Lone Oak is hosting a car show and 5K run in downtown Lone Oak on May 18 to benefit Mission 22, and said there is a personal reason behind the event.

“I suffer from PTSD,” he said.

National relay honors lives of fallen soldiers in Gwinnett County

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Carry the Load National Relay Race, originally created by two Navy SEAL veterans looks to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day.

For 32 days, Carry the Load, with three regional teams, travel a total of nearly 11,000 miles honoring fallen military soldiers, veterans, first responders and their families. The tour stops in various states in-between until they reach Dallas, Texas for the final march on Memorial Day.

Carry the Load brings movement of honoring military and first responders to central Ohio

A non-profit with a mission to honor military members and first responders came to central Ohio Monday.

Carry the Load has a Memorial May awareness campaign encouraging people to walk with their national relay team to honor fallen heroes.

The organization is holding rallies at more than 55 cities across the country, including part of a Midwest route from Minneapolis to Dallas that stopped in the Columbus area.

TUCSON- A group is on a mission to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day. Carry the Load, a non-profit organization, is now a national movement to honor and remember those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

The group is walking and biking a 32-day journey through 40 states and made a stop in Tucson on Monday.
