The Carry The Load Relay Team Is Coming To Kansas

The Carry The Load relay team travels across the country during the month of May to provide an active way to connect Americans to the sacrifices of our military, veterans, first responders and their families. This year people can participate in-person or virtually. Come out to cheer on the relay team or join us by walking a leg or two. Every shout, clap and stride helps us honor and remember our nation’s heroes.

Cyclists carry the load by visiting 48 states in honor of fallen military, police and firefighters

TUCSON (KVOA) - With Memorial Day less than two weeks away, many may be planning a cook out or trip out of town.

But there is one group that is once again on a mission to remind us about the true meaning of the weekend.

The bike and walking relay non-profit group "Carry The Load" were in Catalina in Monday morning, just in from Coolidge, for their annual trip honoring members of the military, police and firefighters who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our communities and the country.

Dayton police ‘Carry the Load’ to honor fallen detective Jorge DelRio

Members of the Dayton Police Department will ride a leg in the Carry the Load Memorial Relay dedicated to detective Jorge DelRio, who died more than two years ago in the line of duty.

The 12.3-mile part of the bicycle ride honoring DelRio begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Wright State University Police headquarters, 118 Campus Services Building, main campus. It ends at the Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third St. in Dayton, according to a release from the Dayton Police Department.

Relay to honor nation’s heroes passes through Cleveland, Northeast Ohio

CLEVELAND — CLEVELAND -- A few dozen people walked through Northeast Ohio on Monday, despite the rain, to show support for our nation's heroes and never forget those who gave their lives for our country.

"The purpose of 'Carry The Load' is keeping the true meaning of Memorial Day in our minds," says Marine Corp Veteran Rick Peacor. "It's not about barbecues or family get togethers, it's actually about paying homage, honor to those that fought for our country, military and first responders."

Carry the Load relay returning to Keokuk

KEOKUK, IA – Carry The Load, a non-profit that provides active ways to connect Americans to the sacrifices of our nation’s military, veterans, first responders and their families, kicks off its 10th Annual National Relay today to raise awareness for the true meaning of Memorial Day. The 32-day, 20,000-mile National Relay includes five routes crossing 48 states and 100 rallies before culminating at the Dallas Memorial March on Memorial Day weekend.

Nonprofit remembering fallen heroes, reason for Memorial Day

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A nonprofit out of Dallas is on a mission to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day, through relay walks spanning the nation. Sunday, the Carry the Load New England relay team marched through Lexington.

“One of the founders Clint Bruce saying ‘I couldn’t go and do my job overseas without knowing that there were people here willing to sacrifice for my family’,” says Smitty Searles, New England relay manager. “It really made it not just about Memorial Day but Memorial May, where we honor the sacrifices of military, of course, but also the other sacrificial services- police, fire, first responders.”

‘Carry the Load’ treks through Ky. in nationwide Memorial Day relay

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Memorial Day Weekend is still a few weeks away, but already volunteers are well underway on a long journey to raise awareness about the true meaning of the holiday.

The group is called Carry The Load and for the past decade they’ve organized a nationwide relay to honor and remember military and first responders, which has continued to grow. On Sunday, their trek crossed through Lexington and Richmond.

“One of the mottos of ‘Carry the Load’ is that you die two deaths. The first one when your breath leaves your body…,” Smitty Searls told FOX 56. “..and once whenever someone quits saying their name, and so I want to keep saying their name,” Bryan Kuh added.

National Memorial Day relay passes through Culpeper

A non-profit working through its 10th Annual National Relay to raise awareness for the true meaning of Memorial Day crossed through Culpeper on May 9 and hosted a presentation at the Culpeper National Cemetery.

“It’s always an honor to see you folks and understand what you do, not only for veterans but for veterans’ families and the true meaning of Memorial Day,” said Culpeper National Cemetery Director Jason Hogan.
