Carry The Load holds memorial relay to honor and remember Det. Jorge DelRio

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) - Members of the Dayton Police Department are honored to ride a leg in the Carry the Load Memorial Relay (Midwest) which will be dedicated to Detective Jorge DelRio, who was was shot in the line of duty on Nov. 4, 2019, and died three days later.

The part of the bicycle ride honoring Detective DelRio began at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Wright State University Police headquarters. It ended at the Dayton National Cemetery on West Third Street. They rode a distance of 12.3 miles on Wednesday. After the ride there was a short ceremony at the cemetery.

‘Carry the Load’ relay to honor fallen military, first responders to pass through El Paso

The 'Carry The Load' relay which honors and remembers fallen military and first responders walked through El Paso Wednesday as part of its 20,000-mile national relay.

Dayton police ride in national relay, remember local detective

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Members of the Dayton Police Department rode a leg in a relay that runs from Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Dallas, Texas. Their portion of this event is dedicated to the late Detective Jorge DelRio.

DPD explained that Carry the Load is an organization dedicated to honoring and celebrating the sacrifices made by our military, veterans, first responders and their families.

Group honoring our fallen heroes passes through Minot with ‘Carry the Load’

Memorial Day is still a couple of weeks away, but volunteers want to spread the word about the true meaning of the holiday.

We met with a group named Carry The Load, who are on a relay trek traveling through the U.S. with the names of fallen heroes on their backs.

“When we started we had a little Winnebago, just the three of us. It was crazy, people thought we were nuts. And then the next year we got one of these busses and we just kept walking and people just kept coming and coming, and their stories… So it’s all about the people. and its the grieving. You know it’s a great way for them to know that their daughter, son, husband, wife is remembered,” said Dill Driscoll, volunteer for Carry the Load.

Texas group treks across U.S., stops in Columbus to celebrate Memorial Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One group on a cross-country mission is encouraging Americans to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day.

“We need to make sure we’re respecting their memory and keeping their name alive, really,” Jeremiah Kincaid, a volunteer with Carry The Load, said.

While many Americans spend Memorial Day weekend at pool parties or cooking out with family and friends, it’s for that shared purpose that these volunteers walk.

Carry the Load Walk and Rally swings through Jacksonville for the first time today

Jacksonville — The Carry the Load Walk and Rally will walk through Jacksonville for the first time in the event’s history today. Founded by Veteran U.S. Navy SEALs, Clint Bruce and Stephen Holley, Carry The Load began as a way to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day. Today, it includes community members as well as its military heroes that participate year-round. The non -profit organization is rooted in raising awareness for the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Darrius Smith, a Marine Corps veteran who served as a supply specialist in Okinawa, Japan, describes the event as a perfect opportunity for the community to honor Memorial Day and America’s fallen heroes.

“This month for military May we not only want to recognize our fallen comrades who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms, we wanted to share in this tradition as well,” said the Jacksonville native. “This national campaign spreads awareness about Carry the Load and honors those who have gone before us. In Jacksonville, we prepare the location for the Relay bus to come in and showcase what they have to offer.”
